Overview

This initiative aims to reconnect young people with intergenerational upcycling activities that connect to nature by transforming underutilized urban spaces into vibrant community gardens.

Amid rising concerns over youth mental health and the growing disconnect from the natural world due to urbanization and technology, this project leverages the passion of young people for environmental change. The project aspires to foster leadership, strengthen social bonds across generations, and increase green spaces, ultimately cultivating a more connected, resilient, and environmentally conscious community.

By engaging youth 5–25yrs in hands-on gardening and upcycling activities, the initiative promotes physical and mental well-being, environmental education, and community and intergenerational connection that engages elderly residents to participate in on activities too.

Tinap-Green, Travel Trackie and Aunua Global teams from Volunteer Ireland.

Through corporate partnerships and local councils, community centres, schools, and retired gardening enthusiasts, participants will collaborate on garden planning, maintenance, and ongoing community events.

Delivered upcycling workshops in Dublin as part of a pilot project to create a garden space within a nursing home for the elderly residents to enjoy.
